SEOUL, May 1 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's online shopping rose in single digits in March on the back of solid demand for food and food delivery service, statistical office data showed Thursday.
Shopping in cyberspace added 2.6 percent to 22.42 trillion won (15.7 billion U.S. dollars) in March compared to the same month of last year, according to Statistics Korea.
It marked the largest March amount since the statistical agency began to compile relevant data in 2017.
Transaction of food and beverage in cyberspace grew 9.8 percent, and demand for agricultural, livestock and fishery products jumped 11.3 percent.
Online demand for food delivery service advanced 14.6 percent, while online purchase of cosmetics, clothing, mobile devices, fashion stuff and daily necessities climbed in single digits.
Demand for footwear, furniture, sports items and computers in cyberspace fell in single digits, and online transaction of e-coupon service tumbled 44.6 percent amid the weaker trend to provide gifts such as coffee and cake through e-coupons.
Shopping through smartphones, tablets and other mobile gadgets mounted 4.8 percent from a year earlier to 17.24 trillion won (12.1 billion dollars) in March, accounting for 76.9 percent of the combined online shopping. Enditem
