BEIRUT, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese Finance Minister Yassine Jaber and Minister of Energy and Water Joe Saddi on Tuesday concluded a two-day visit to Baghdad, during which they discussed cooperation with the Iraqi side on restarting the oil pipeline from Iraq to Lebanon.

The renewal of the pipeline was discussed during their meeting with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid as well as their meeting with Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdel Ghani, Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported, noting that the pipeline renewal project will depend on resolving security and logistical conditions in Syria, through which the pipeline passes.

The meeting between the ministers and Rashid also touched on the possibility of renewing a refinery in northern Lebanon, as well as Iraq's initiative announced in January of delivering 320,000 tonnes of wheat to Lebanon via land, which will be sent by Iraq in the coming weeks, the NNA reported.

The meeting between the Lebanese ministers and the Iraqi oil minister also focused on settling Lebanon's outstanding payments related to previous fuel deliveries.

During the two-day visit, Jaber and Saddi also held meetings with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani, and Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Planning Minister Mohammad Ali Tamim, during the latter of which both sides explored avenues for expanding cooperation in investment, energy, and banking, the NNA reported.

Besides, Jaber and Saddi attended a reception at the Lebanese Embassy in Baghdad, which was also joined by Lebanese business leaders. The participants discussed expanding private-sector mutual investments, particularly in electricity and solar energy, and using Iraq's fuel payments held at Lebanon's central bank to finance future ventures.
