U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, May 6 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar fell in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased by 0.59 percent to 99.237 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro was up to 1.1371 U.S. dollars from 1.1313 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound increased to 1.3376 dollars from 1.3289 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 142.45 Japanese yen, lower than 143.92 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar was down to 0.8217 Swiss francs from 0.8229 Swiss francs, and it lost to 1.3773 Canadian dollars from 1.3815 Canadian dollars.
