COLOMBO, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Thirty-seven people were injured in a bus accident in Aladeniya in Sri Lanka's Central Province on Monday night, police said.

Among those injured were nine children under the age of 15, police said.

The bus was carrying a group of passengers on a leisure trip when the crash occurred. All injured individuals were taken to nearby regional hospitals for treatment, police said.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a brake failure may have caused the accident, police said.

Bus accidents are frequent in Sri Lanka. On Sunday, over 20 people were killed with dozens more injured when a bus plunged off a cliff in Kotmale, in the Central Province. Enditem
