NEW DELHI, May 21 (Xinhua) -- The number of Asiatic Lions in India rose by over 32 percent to 891 during the past five years, said a senior official of the forests wildlife department on Wednesday.

The lions' headcount was carried out from May 10 to May 13 in India's western state of Gujarat, which is considered as the home of lions in the country.

"From May 10 to May 13, the entire staff and many volunteers, as well as the people of villages, participated in the counting," Gujarat's Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Wildlife Jaypal Singh was quoted as saying by local media.

The previous lions' census was done in 2020. Enditem
