ANKARA, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye is in discussions with multiple foreign companies as part of the plan to construct its second and third nuclear power plants, according to its energy minister on Wednesday.

"We will make the selection that will be the most beneficial for Türkiye and offer us the most competitive offer," Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar told reporters during a visit to southeastern Sirnak province, according to the daily Dunya.

Bayraktar also noted that the government wants to possess the know-how on the technology of these systems.

"We need to be able to choose the right technology ... and we need to bring this technology to Türkiye," he said.

Russia's state-owned Rosatom is currently building Türkiye's first nuclear power plant in the Mediterranean province of Mersin, under a 20 billion-U.S.-dollar agreement signed in 2010.

The second plant is planned for Sinop on the Black Sea coast, while the third is expected to be built in the Thrace region in northwestern Türkiye. Enditem
