SINGAPORE, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's non-oil domestic exports rose 3.3 percent in the first quarter from a year earlier, picking up from a 2.4 percent increase in the previous quarter, official data showed on Thursday.

Enterprise Singapore said the rise was supported by growth in both electronics and non-electronics shipments. Non-electronics exports returned to positive territory after a decline in the previous quarter, while electronics maintained their upward momentum.

Non-oil re-exports, a gauge of Singapore's role as a trade hub, rose 8.3 percent year-on-year in the first quarter, easing from a 14.2 percent gain in the fourth quarter of 2024. The increase was driven by higher shipments of both electronics and non-electronics goods.

Total merchandise trade grew 4.9 percent from a year earlier, compared with a 6.8 percent expansion in the previous quarter, as both exports and imports increased.

Services trade rose 3.8 percent year-on-year, slowing from a 7.4 percent gain in the fourth quarter. Enditem
