MEXICO CITY, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Spaniard Domenec Torrent has reached an agreement to become the new head coach of Monterrey, the Mexican top flight club said on Wednesday.
The 62-year-old replaces Argentine Martin Demichelis, who was sacked earlier this month after the team's quarterfinal elimination from the Liga MX Clausura tournament.
"[Domenec] brings more than three decades of experience in professional football, including roles at top international clubs, and is known for implementing a balanced, dynamic, and competitive style of play," read a statement on the club's official website.
Torrent has been out of work since parting ways with Atletico San Luis in April. His managerial career has included spells in charge of Flamengo, Galatasaray, New York City and stints as an assistant to Pep Guardiola at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
Torrent's immediate task will be preparing his team for the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, which begins on June 15. Monterrey is in Group E alongside Inter Milan, River Plate and Urawa Reds. Enditem
