SYDNEY, May 25 (Xinhua) -- One person has died and three more have been hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash northeast of Melbourne in Australia's state of Victoria.

Victorian Police said in a statement on Sunday that the two vehicles collided in the small town of Everton Upper, about 215 km northeast of Melbourne, the capital city of the state, just after 3:30 p.m. local time on Saturday.

The driver of one vehicle, a 74-year-old woman, died at the scene and her female passenger was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle, a woman aged 41, was also airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A seven-year-old girl who was a passenger in the second vehicle was airlifted to hospital as a precaution.

Police said the exact circumstances of the crash are yet to be determined and detectives from the major collision unit are investigating.

It takes the 2025 road death toll in Victoria to 122, compared to 110 at the same point in 2024. Enditem
