KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli announced his resignation here on Wednesday, ending a career that began in December 2022.
Rafizi, who was the deputy president of the ruling People's Justice Party, known by its Malay acronym PKR, lost his seat in party elections last week and cited this loss of mandate as the reason for his resignation in a statement.
"As is the practice in countries that uphold democratic principles, leaders who lose in party elections should make way for those who have won to take their place in government."
"I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to the leadership and staff of the ministry, who have given me their full support throughout my tenure," he said.
Meanwhile, Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, an ally of Rafizi, also announced his resignation after failing to defend his vice-president post of PKR. Enditem
