YANGON, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar has planned to release more than 38 million fish fingerlings across the country during the 2025-26 fiscal year to boost fish resources, state-owned Myanmar Radio and Television reported on Wednesday, citing the Department of Fisheries.

The fingerlings will be released into major rivers such as the Ayeyarwady, Thanlwin, Chindwin, and Sittaung, as well as other rivers and ponds across the country, the report said.

The fish stocking program is part of efforts to sustain fish populations, provide more fish for local communities, create job opportunities, and support the growth of the fishery industry, it said.

The fish species to be released included rohu, common carp, and swamp barb, it added.

In addition to the stocking program, the Department of Fisheries was offering basic fish farming and breeding training for local farmers and individuals interested in aquaculture to promote small-scale fish farming, helping people increase their income and access employment opportunities, the report said.
