LONDON, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Manchester United announced an agreement on Sunday to sign Brazilian international striker Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The signing of the 26-year-old former Atletico Madrid forward is the club's first move to improve its squad after disappointing last season after finishing 15th in the classification with just 42 points from 38 matches - the club's worst showing in the English top-flight since it was relegated for a season in the second division in 1974.
"Manchester United has reached agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of Matheus Cunha," confirmed the club website, explaining the Brazilian's arrival was "subject to visa and registration."
United will pay around 67 million pounds (about 85 million U.S. dollars) for a player who has represented his country 13 times, scoring 33 goals in 92 appearances, for Wolves, with 15 of those coming in 33 Premier League appearances last season as he helped the club escape the relegation zone and finish level on points with United.
"Everyone at Manchester United looks forward to welcoming Matheus to Old Trafford," added the United website. Enditem
