CAIRO, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's Pyramids FC made history on Sunday night by securing their first-ever CAF Champions League title with a 3-2 aggregate victory over South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns.

After drawing 1-1 in the first leg in Pretoria, Pyramids clinched a 2-1 win in the decisive second leg held in Cairo.

Pyramids started strong, with striker Fiston Mayele opening the scoring in the 23rd minute - netting his ninth goal of the competition. Defender Ahmed Samy extended the lead in the 56th minute with a header from a Mohamed Chibi cross.

Despite trailing by two goals, Sundowns showed resilience, with Iqraam Rayners pulling one back in the 75th minute to set up a tense finale.

Sundowns pressed hard during the closing stages, which included 10 minutes of added time, but Pyramids held firm - bolstered by goalkeeper Ahmed El Shenawy's heroics and a composed defensive line.

The victory marks Pyramids FC as the fourth Egyptian club to win Africa's most prestigious club competition, joining Al Ahly, Zamalek and Ismaily. It also ensures Egypt retains the continental crown for a third consecutive year, following Al Ahly's triumphs in 2023 and 2024.

For Mamelodi Sundowns, it was a night of heartbreak, marking their second defeat in a Champions League final. Enditem
