LONDON, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Zia Yusuf resigned on Thursday as the chairman of Britain's Reform UK party, saying working to get the party elected was no longer "a good use of my time."
"I no longer believe working to get a Reform government elected is a good use of my time, and hereby resign the office," he wrote in a post on social media platform X, without elaborating on his reasons for stepping down.
Yusuf, a former banker, became Reform UK's chairman shortly after last year's general election. He had previously been a member of the Conservative Party.
Reform leader Nigel Farage said he was "genuinely sorry" Yusuf was resigning, adding that Yusuf was "a huge factor" in the party's success in elections in May.
Reform UK made sweeping gains in Britain's elections last month, securing over 670 council seats, two mayoral victories, and a parliamentary by-election win. Enditem
