JAKARTA, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's Southeast Sulawesi Province exported 98 tons of marine and fishery products worth over 28 trillion rupiah (around 1.72 billion U.S. dollars) to the United States and Thailand on Tuesday.
"The seafood products include octopus, crab meat and frozen supplies, shipped in five containers from Kendari Container Terminal to their respective destination countries," said Ishartini, head of the fishery product quality control and inspection agency at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries.
Crab meat, totaling 45 tons, contributed the largest export value, reaching 21 trillion rupiah (around 1.29 billion U.S. dollars) of the total, Ishartini added.
Authorities hope the export will boost the welfare of local businesses and strengthen Southeast Sulawesi's position as a leading fishery export hub in eastern Indonesia. Enditem
