TOKYO -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.4 struck off the Tokara island chain in Japan's southwestern prefecture of Kagoshima on Sunday, as more people evacuated from the area that has been rattled by a series of temblors.

The quake, which occurred at 2:07 p.m. local time, measured upper 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 on Akusekijima, part of the Tokara island chain, said the Japan Meteorological Agency. (Japan-Earthquake)

SEOUL -- South Korea's special counsel investigating former President Yoon Suk-yeol's short-lived martial law imposition sought a warrant to detain the ousted president, the special counsel team's spokesperson said Sunday.

ISLAMABAD -- The death toll in the building collapse in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi has jumped to 27 as rescuers retrieved more bodies, a spokesperson of the state-owned rescue organization Rescue 1122 said on Sunday.
