JAKARTA, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia is preparing more than 10,000 hectares of agricultural land to grow rice and vegetables, which will be supplied to Palestine in the future, Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman announced on Monday.
Sulaiman said the program will involve Palestinian partners, who will contribute their expertise in agriculture. The farmland is being prepared in the southern Sumatra and Kalimantan regions.
An agreement on the program was signed in Jakarta on Monday between Sulaiman and his Palestinian counterpart Rezq Basheer-Salimia.
According to Sulaiman, the initiative reflects Indonesia's concrete solidarity with the Palestinian people, aiming to support their food security while they continue their struggle for independence.
"When our brothers and sisters need food, they can simply take it from the land we cultivate together," he said. "This is a form of humanitarian assistance to our Palestinian brothers and sisters. We also pray for their independence and remain committed to supporting their food needs."
Sulaiman added that Indonesia is committed to donating 10,000 tonnes of rice to Palestine, with distribution coordinated based on the readiness of the Palestinian Embassy in Jakarta.
"Whenever it can be sent, we will hand over the rice," he said. Enditem
