ISLAMABAD, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday reaffirmed his government's resolve to combat human trafficking, calling it an organized crime threatening vulnerable populations and national security.
In a message marking the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, Sharif urged greater awareness and coordinated efforts to stop illegal migration and exploitation.
This year's theme, "Human Trafficking is an Organized Crime -- End the Exploitation," underscores the urgent need for collective action at national and international levels, the prime minister said.
He said several Pakistanis have lost their lives attempting to migrate unlawfully, exposing the dangers of transnational trafficking networks.
To address the issue, the government formed a special task force. Law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Investigation Agency and the Intelligence Bureau, have disrupted major trafficking rings and taken legal action against involved officials, he noted.
Sharif emphasized the importance of educating citizens about legal migration routes and expanding economic opportunities both domestically and abroad.
"Illegal migration not only endangers lives but also breaches national and international laws," he said.
Sharif called for continued collaboration among federal, provincial, and security institutions, reaffirming Pakistan's commitment to global anti-trafficking goals. Enditem
