LJUBLJANA, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia has recorded its highest-ever daytime low temperature, with the coastal city of Koper staying above 28 degrees Celsius for 24 consecutive hours on Monday, the Slovenian Environment Agency reported.
At the Koper Markovec weather station, 28 degrees Celsius was the lowest temperature measured that day, surpassing the previous record by one degree. The earlier record, also set at the same station, dated back a decade.
Although Monday was slightly cooler than the days before, the western Primorska region experienced its warmest morning of the summer, with some locations not dipping below 25 degrees Celsius overnight. Meteorologists attribute the unusually high nighttime temperatures partly to the influence of the bora wind.
An orange weather alert, the second-highest warning level, has been issued for southwestern Slovenia, with authorities expecting the intense heat to persist. The alert will remain in place in the coming days, as forecasters warn the heatwave will strengthen over the weekend.
On Tuesday, maximum temperatures are forecast to range from 28 to 31 degrees Celsius and up to 34 degrees Celsius in the western Goriska region, according to the agency. Enditem
