SEOUL, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export volume grew for the sixth straight month due to solid demand for electronic products, central bank data showed Thursday.

The export volume index rose 8.2 percent in July from a year earlier, continuing to expand since February, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).

In terms of volume, outbound shipments for computers, electronic and optical devices rose 20.6 percent in July on a yearly basis, keeping a double-digit growth for the fifth consecutive month.

Export volume for oil products, chemicals, metal products and transport equipment increased in single figures, but shipments for machinery and equipment retreated in double digits.

The export value index climbed 4.3 percent in July compared with the same month of last year, keeping an upward trend for the second successive month.

The import volume index swelled 7.8 percent in the cited month, and the import value index added 1.8 percent.

The net terms-of-trade index for goods, or a ratio of export price to import price, was up 2.1 percent in July on a yearly basis on the back of a faster fall in import price than export price. Enditem
