KABUL, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Police have set on fire more than 13 tons of illegal drugs in Spin Boldak district of Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province, district administration spokesman Hafiz Haqmal said Thursday.
The contraband, including 5.2 tons of opium poppy and other illegal objects, which had been collected during a series of operations, was publicly burned in Spin Boldak district on Wednesday evening, the official said.
Police have also taken into custody 30 individuals on charges of involvement in the drug business and referred their cases to the judiciary for further investigation, the official contended.
In the anti-drug drive, police also reported the discovery of more than 600 kg of opium poppy and the arrest of two drug traffickers in the northern Badakhshan province a couple of days ago. Enditem
