YANGON, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Flooding has affected parts of Nay Pyi Taw Council Area in central Myanmar following heavy rainfall that began Tuesday night, state-owned Myanmar Radio and Television reported on Wednesday.

According to the report, the rains were caused by the effects of Tropical Storm Kajiki, which brought widespread precipitation across various regions and states in Myanmar.

Continuous rain from Tuesday night into Wednesday afternoon led to flooding on the old Yangon-Mandalay road in Zeyathiri township and in several villages in Pyinmana township in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, the report said.

Local authorities, including military personnel, police personnel, Red Cross volunteers, and fire service teams, are working together to ensure public safety, facilitate movement, and evacuate residents from areas affected by floods, the report said.

The country's Department of Meteorology and Hydrology reported on Wednesday that Tatkon in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area recorded 138 mm of rain on Wednesday, marking the highest single-day rainfall in the area in 42 years. Enditem
