UNITED NATIONS -- The 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) was declared open by Annalena Baerbock, the new president of the General Assembly, at the UN headquarters in New York on Tuesday afternoon.

The theme of the 80th session of the UNGA, which marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, is "Better Together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights." (UN-80th Session)

SANAA -- Yemen's Houthi group on Tuesday claimed responsibility for attacks on "sensitive" targets near Jerusalem, Ramon Airport in southern Israel, and two sites in Eilat.

In a statement aired by the group's al-Masirah TV, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said two operations targeted "several sensitive sites" around Jerusalem and Eilat, adding that the attacks were carried out in support of the Palestinians and had achieved their objectives. PARIS -- French President Emmanuel Macron named Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu as the country's new prime minister on Tuesday evening.

Lecornu, 39, has served as defense minister for more than three years and is regarded as a close ally of Macron, local media reported. The Elysee said his main task will be to consult with political parties to "build the necessary agreements for decisions in the coming months." (Macron-Lecornu-PM)

GAZA -- Hamas said Tuesday evening that its negotiating delegation survived an Israeli airstrike in the Qatari capital Doha, though six others were killed, including members of the group's escorts and a Qatari security officer.

The movement identified the Palestinian victims as Jihad Lubad, office director of Hamas political bureau member Khalil al-Hayya; Hammam al-Hayya, son of Khalil al-Hayya; and escorts Abdullah Abdulwahid, Moamen Hassouna, and Ahmed al-Mamlouk.
