BEIJING, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 jolted off the east coast of Kamchatka at 1634 GMT on Monday, the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10.0 km, was initially determined to be at 52.77 degrees north latitude and 160.64 degrees east longitude.

The local branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that the earthquake's magnitude was 5.9, with its epicenter located approximately 152 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the regional capital, at a depth of 25 km.

Residents felt the tremors, but no tsunami threat was announced, according to the TASS news agency. Enditem
