BUCHAREST, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Romanian prosecutors have indicted former presidential candidate Calin Georgescu, accusing him of complicity in a plot to undermine the country's constitutional order, judicial sources said Tuesday.

Prosecutors said that Georgescu, together with mercenary Horatiu Potra and his associates, planned to infiltrate protests sparked by the annulment of the December 2024 presidential elections in order to sow chaos. The plot was reportedly devised during a clandestine meeting at a farm in Ciolpani, near the capital Bucharest.

Georgescu has been under judicial supervision since Feb. 26, with restrictions that include a ban on leaving the country without authorization. Authorities said Potra's whereabouts remain unknown and believe he is seeking asylum in Russia. Enditem
