BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Marcelino Moreno struck late as Argentina's Lanus edged to a 1-0 home win over Brazilian side Fluminense in the first leg of their Copa Sudamericana quarterfinal on Tuesday.
Moreno put the hosts ahead in the 89th minute by lashing a first-time shot into the far corner after Eduardo Salvio's cross from the left wing.
Despite controlling a greater share of possession than Lanus, Fluminense managed only one attempt on target at La Fortaleza.
The return leg will be played at Rio de Janeiro's Maracana stadium next Tuesday, with Lanus needing only a draw to progress.
The Copa Sudamericana is the South American equivalent of the UEFA Europa League and the winner will earn an automatic berth in next year's Copa Libertadores. Enditem
