Pakistan posts 245 mln USD current account deficit in August

ISLAMABAD, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan recorded a current account deficit of 245 million U.S. dollars in August, narrowing from 379 million dollars in July but widening from 82 million dollars in the same month last year, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said Thursday.

In August, exports of goods stood at 2.5 billion dollars while imports reached 5.0 billion dollars, leaving a merchandise trade deficit of 2.5 billion dollars.

Exports of services were valued at 671 million dollars, compared with imports of 1.1 billion dollars, resulting in a deficit of 437 million dollars in the sector.

For the first two months of fiscal year 2025-26, Pakistan's current account deficit totaled 624 million dollars, up from 430 million dollars in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Pakistan closed fiscal year 2024-25 with a current account surplus of 2.1 billion dollars, its first in 14 years, supported mainly by record workers' remittances of 38.3 billion dollars. Enditem
