KABUL, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Local authorities started construction of two water supply networks in the drought-hit Khalm district of northern Afghanistan's Samangan province on Wednesday, the state-run Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA) reported.
Allocated 8 million afghani (around 115,000 U.S. dollars) for the construction of the essential project, the water networks would provide potable water to 350 families, the official media outlet added.
The project, after completion, would also facilitate farmers to irrigate more farmlands, the report said.
Afghanistan has been facing water shortage due to successive years of drought, as people in big cities, including the national capital Kabul, have little access to clean water.
By launching projects to manage water resources, the Afghan government aims to address water scarcity while also creating job opportunities for its people. Enditem
