Canada sees employment increase in September, unemployment rate unchanged

OTTAWA, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Canada's economy added 60,000 jobs in September, while the unemployment rate remained unchanged, Statistics Canada reported Friday.

The September increase partially offset a cumulative loss of 106,000 jobs over July and August. The employment rate, the proportion of the population aged 15 and older who are employed, rose by 0.1 percentage points to 60.6 percent in September, said the national statistical agency.

According to the agency, the overall unemployment rate was unchanged at 7.1 percent in September, following an increase of 0.2 percentage points in August. Since the start of 2025, the unemployment rate has increased by 0.5 percentage points.

The labor force participation rate rose by 0.1 percentage points to 65.2 percent in September, said Statistics Canada. Enditem
