HANOI, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- More than 9,700 hybrid cars were sold in Vietnam in the first nine months of 2025, up 73 percent year-on-year, Vietnam News Agency reported Friday, citing the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association.

The figure reflects a growing consumer preference for greener mobility options, the report said.

The growth momentum is expected to strengthen from Jan. 1, 2026, when the revised Law on Special Consumption Tax takes effect, cutting the tax rate for hybrid vehicles to 70 percent of that applied to conventional petrol cars, according to the state-owned media.

The association said wider adoption of hybrid vehicles could help Vietnam reduce national carbon dioxide emissions by more than 2.6 million tons. Enditem
