Asian women's U16 volleyball championship kicks off in Amman

AMMAN, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- The second Asian Women's U16 Volleyball Championship kicked off here Saturday, with China edging South Korea 3-2 for an opening win in preliminary Group C.

South Korea took the first set 25-11 at Prince Hamzah Hall in Hussein Youth City, but China bounced back 25-20 in the second. South Korea regained the lead 25-19 in the third, before China leveled with a 25-19 fourth set and clinched the tiebreaker 15-13.

Fourteen teams -- China, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Australia, the Philippines, Qatar, Kazakhstan, India, Jordan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Chinese Taipei and China's Hong Kong -- are competing in the eight-day tournament, with the top four finishers qualifying for the 2026 World Women's U17 Championship.
