OSLO, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Norway and the Czech Republic have signed an agreement launching a new funding period under the European Economic Area (EEA) and Norway Grants, aimed at strengthening cooperation in areas including culture, research and innovation, green transition, health, and education, the Norwegian government said Tuesday.
Under the framework, a total of 225.2 million euros (258.86 million U.S. dollars) will be allocated to the Czech Republic for the upcoming period, with Norway contributing around 97 percent of the total funding, according to a government press release.
The funding period will formally conclude in 2028, though project disbursements will be permitted until the end of April 2031. Funds will be distributed through six thematic programs, with a particular focus on promoting the green transition, strengthening democracy, and building robust and inclusive societies.
The EEA and Norway Grants aim to reduce social and economic disparities across Europe while fostering closer cooperation between Norway and beneficiary countries, the statement said. (1 euro = 1.15 U.S. dollars) Enditem
