SAO PAULO, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from the tornadoes that struck the southern Brazilian state of Parana last Friday has risen to seven, following the death of a 70-year-old man, the state's health ministry said Tuesday.

Among the deceased, six were killed in the town of Rio Bonito do Iguacu, while another died in the neighboring municipality of Guarapuava.

The region recorded at least three unprecedented tornadoes, one of which devastated Rio Bonito do Iguacu -- a town of about 14,000 residents -- where roughly 90 percent of buildings were damaged.

Twenty people remain hospitalized, health authorities said. The state government continues to provide medical support in the affected areas, supplying items such as serums, bandages, syringes and compresses.

The fire department said there were no reports of missing people, adding that efforts are now focused on restoring essential services, such as water and power supply, and ensuring the distribution of food and drinking water. Enditem
