CAIRO, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's Yang Ji-in won the women's 25-meter pistol gold at the 2025 ISSF World Championship Rifle/Pistol in Cairo on Friday, holding off strong challenges from China's Yao Qianxun and India's Esha Singh in a thrilling final.

The reigning Olympic champion delivered a composed performance, finishing with 40 hits, ahead of Yao's 38 and Singh's 30.

"I am very happy that my training brought good results, and I am honored to become world champion," Yang said after the final.

The 22-year-old South Korean shooter, who had finished sixth at the 2023 World Championships before winning the 25-meter pistol gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, described the victory as a meaningful step in her development. "I am proud that I have grown and recovered compared to the last worlds," she added.

Yang said this result reflected clear progress in her development. "I wasn't that good before, but with this year's World Championships result, I feel that I have grown and recovered compared to the last worlds," she said.

China's Yao, with 38 hits, took silver, adding to her Cairo medal haul, which includes the women's 10-meter air pistol individual title, mixed team gold with Hu Kai, and two additional golds in non-Olympic events. India's rising star Esha Singh secured bronze with 30 hits and earlier earned silver in the 10-meter air pistol mixed team event with teammate Samrat Rana.

The 2025 ISSF World Championship Rifle/Pistol, hosted by Egypt from November 6 to 18, features more than 700 shooters from around the world. Enditem
