WARSAW, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Wlodzimierz Czarzasty, co-leader of the New Left, the ruling coalition's junior partner, was elected Tuesday as speaker of Poland's lower house of parliament, the Sejm, replacing Szymon Holownia, leader of Poland 2050.
Holownia was elected as deputy speaker of the Sejm.
Czarzasty received 236 votes in favor, 209 against, and 2 abstentions, with 13 deputies absent.
According to the agreement signed by the leaders of the ruling coalition in November 2023, the position of the parliamentary speaker would be rotational.
Holownia submitted his resignation last Thursday, saying that he and Czarzasty had agreed to hold the vote at the Sejm session beginning from Nov. 18. Enditem
