TRIPOLI, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Saturday condemned the killing of Libyan blogger Khansa Mohammad Abdelmajid and urged a "swift and transparent" investigation into her death.
Abdelmajid, a content creator, was shot by unidentified gunmen on Friday night in the Janzour area of Tripoli, according to local media reports. The killing has sparked widespread shock in Libya.
Abdelmajid is the wife of Moath Al-Manfoakh, a former member of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, a UN-facilitated assembly created in 2020 to help chart a path out of Libya's political stalemate.
UNSMIL, in a statement, called on Libyan authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice and take decisive measures to halt what it described as a "dangerous pattern of violence against women and the targeting of women active in public life."
It also urged restraint and full cooperation with the ongoing investigations.
Some local reports suggested the attack may have targeted her husband, who had previously driven the same vehicle, or could be linked to armed group rivalries. Enditem
