ANKARA, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye and South Korea signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Monday during South Korean President Lee Jae Myung's visit to Ankara, aiming to strengthen cooperation in the nuclear energy sector.
At a joint press conference with the South Korean president, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said negotiations with South Korea on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Türkiye are continuing.
South Korea is seeking potential cooperation opportunities on Türkiye's second planned nuclear power plant in the northern province of Sinop.
According to Erdogan, the two leaders also discussed potential cooperation in the defense industry during their meeting.
For his part, Lee said the two countries reaffirmed their strategic partnership, expressing confidence that these ties will be further strengthened and passed on to future generations.
"Türkiye, located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, has become a strong base for Korean companies seeking access to the European market," Lee said, adding that South Korea is determined to deepen joint strategic ventures with Türkiye in fields such as renewable energy, artificial intelligence, and advanced science and technology.
