MADRID, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid has suffered a last-minute setback in its preparations for Wednesday's Champions League game away to Olympiacos with the news that goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was forced to abandon the club's Tuesday morning training session.
"Following the examination conducted today by Real Madrid Medical Services on our player, Thibaut Courtois, he has been diagnosed with a gastrointestinal viral infection. He will miss the trip to Athens," informed the club on its official website, adding Courtois "progress will be monitored."
That means the goalkeeper won't travel with his teammates to Greece on Tuesday, although there is a slight chance he could travel to Wednesday if he recovers in time, if not Andriy Lunin will start in goal.
Real Madrid is already without defenders Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal for a game in which coach Xabi Alonso needs a win after rising doubts over his side's recent performances. Enditem
