Türkiye detains 14 IS suspects over planned attack in Istanbul

ISTANBUL, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police detained here on Wednesday 14 individuals linked to the Islamic State (IS) for allegedly procuring explosives and maintaining contacts with conflict zones abroad for a planned attack.

The police launched simultaneous raids at multiple addresses, arresting the suspects and seizing digital evidence, an unlicensed firearm, and 90 rounds of ammunition, the Istanbul Provincial Police Department said in a statement.

The suspects have been taken into custody for further questioning and legal proceedings, it added.

Türkiye designated IS a terrorist organization in 2013 and has since suffered multiple attacks carried out by the group. In response, Ankara has conducted numerous counterterrorism operations both at home and abroad. Enditem
