S. Korea's real wage falls in September

SEOUL, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's real wage, adjusted for inflation, turned downward amid higher inflationary pressure, labor ministry data showed Thursday.

The per-capita nominal monthly average wage in businesses with one or more regular employees gained 0.7 percent over the year to 4,332,000 won (2,950 U.S. dollars) in September, according to the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

The real monthly wage shrank 1.4 percent in September on a yearly basis after rising 0.1 percent in the prior month.

The consumer price inflation hovered around the central bank's target of 2 percent in recent months, with 2.1 percent in July, 1.7 percent in August and 2.1 percent in September.

The monthly average working hours per employee in the businesses grew 18.2 percent to 164.9 hours in September compared to the same month of last year.

The manufacturing industry recorded the longest monthly working hours of 181.7, followed by the mining industry with 179.6 hours.

The construction industry logged the shortest working hours of 137.0 in the cited month. Enditem
