VIENTIANE, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Laos' Ministry of Technology and Communications recently held a workshop on national data policy to strengthen and sustain the development of the digital economy in Laos.
The event, held on Tuesday, highlighted the government's strategy to develop the data industry as a critical resource for socio-economic growth, while accelerating 4G and 5G expansion.
Under a 20-year vision and a 10-year strategy, Laos aims to achieve nationwide 5G coverage by 2040, provide all government services online, have the digital economy contribute 10 percent of GDP, and increase digital workers to 4 percent of the workforce.
As part of its digital promotion efforts, Laos Blockchain Fest 2025 was held in the Lao capital Vientiane from Nov. 21 to 22 under the theme "Building Resilient Future-Chain," aiming to raise public awareness of digital transformation and support the development of Laos' digital economy.
The event supports the government's technology and communication development plan, which emphasizes Industry 4.0, blockchain adoption, and building a sustainable digital ecosystem across both public and private sectors. Enditem
