SYDNEY, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- A pilot has died after two light planes collided in mid-air on Sunday in southwest Sydney.

A police statement said that emergency services responded to reports of a plane crash in the vicinity of an airfield in the suburb of Wedderburn, 50 km southwest of central Sydney, around 12:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Officers were told that two light planes had collided in mid-air before one of the aircraft crashed into a forested area.

The body of the pilot, who police said was believed to be the sole occupant of the plane, was located at the crash site.

The second plane landed safely at the airfield and the pilot was uninjured.

Police established two crime scenes and the incident would be investigated by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau. Enditem
