ZAGREB, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Unlike the previous European Commissions (ECs), the current one has the real political will to expand the European Union (EU), Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said at a summit in Zagreb on Wednesday.

According to the website of the Croatian government, Plenkovic told the Second Annual Croatia Summit that during the mandate of previous ECs, he did not feel "a sincere political will in the center of Brussels politics" to expand the EU.

"This time we can feel the political will in the EU executive, even in the majority of member states, that perhaps it is time that someone else should join after Croatia, which joined the EU on July 1, 2013," he said.

Plenkovic said there are two groups of candidate countries for the EU: Ukraine and Moldova in one group, and the countries of Southeast Europe, or the Western Balkans, in the other group, with Montenegro being the leading one.

"If they manage to be technically ready, we could have a political decision for some before 2030," Plenkovic said.

The summit brought together leaders, policymakers and experts to explore how unity, stability and innovation can guide Europe through this transformative era, according to the Croatian government website. Enditem
