HONG KONG -- Voting for the election of the eighth-term Legislative Council (LegCo) of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) was held on Sunday.
The new term of LegCo will be composed of 90 members, including 40 elected by the Election Committee, 30 elected by functional constituencies, and 20 elected by geographical constituencies through direct elections. The eighth-term LegCo of the HKSAR will commence its four-year term on Jan. 1, 2026. (HKSAR-LegCo Election)

MANILA -- The Philippines is confronting the fastest-rising human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) epidemic in the Asia-Pacific region, with an average of 61 Filipinos diagnosed every day this year, up 22 percent from last year, prompting urgent calls for more decisive national action.
The World Health Organization earlier identified the Philippines, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea as the countries in the region where HIV infections continue to climb. It said the three now face some of the region's sharpest surges in new HIV infections. (Philippines-HIV)

NEW DELHI -- At least 25 people, including four tourists, were killed and many others injured around midnight Saturday in a devastating fire at a nightclub in India's western state of Goa, police said on Sunday.
The fire tore through a popular nightclub, Birch by Romeo Lane, in Arpora village of North Goa district, about 16 km northwest of Panaji, the capital city of Goa. (India-Goa-Nightclub fire)

SYDNEY -- The number of homes destroyed in bushfires in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) had increased to 20, including 16 in the Central Coast and four in the Mid North Coast.
New South Wales Rural Fire Services (NSW RFS), the lead combat agency for bushfires in NSW, confirmed on Sunday that building impact assessment teams completed their assessment of the Nimbin Rd, Koolewong fireground in the Central Coast and found 16 houses were destroyed and nine were damaged.
