TEHRAN, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Iran and Saudi Arabia on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the provisions of a China-mediated 2023 agreement on the resumption of bilateral diplomatic relations.

The third meeting of the trilateral committee of Iran, Saudi Arabia and China, responsible for follow-ups on the implementation of the Beijing agreement, was convened in the Iranian capital on Tuesday, according to a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

It noted that the Iranian and the Saudi sides highlighted their commitment to fully implementing the provisions of the Beijing agreement and making constant efforts to strengthen bilateral relations. Both sides pledged to uphold the United Nations Charter, the Charter of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and international law, including principles requiring respect for the two states' sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence and security.

Iran and Saudi Arabia welcomed the continuation of China's positive role in the implementation of the agreement and highlighted the importance of Beijing's support and follow-ups in that regard, the statement said.

According to the statement, the three countries welcomed the "continuous progress" made in the Iran-Saudi Arabia ties as well as the existing opportunities for direct contacts between the two countries at all levels and in all sectors. They also emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation among regional countries to ensure security, stability, peace and economic progress.

Iran and Saudi Arabia restored diplomatic relations in April 2023 under the mediation of Beijing. Riyadh had severed ties with Tehran in 2016 after Iranian protesters attacked Saudi diplomatic missions following the kingdom's execution of a Shiite cleric. Enditem
