KABUL, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- A total of 35,000 drug users recovered and reintegrated with their families after receiving treatment in Afghanistan's western Herat province over the past four years, an official said Friday.
According to Mawlawi Hayatullah Rouhani, the provincial director of the counter-narcotics directorate, more than 100 people received treatment each week. The treatment programs include psychological counseling, vocational training, and support aimed at strengthening social relationships and family ties.
Meanwhile, counter-narcotics police in southern Helmand province have rounded up 168 drug addicts to be transferred to rehabilitation centers for treatment.
The Afghan government has banned poppy cultivation and narcotics trafficking as part of a broader initiative to curb drug abuse and promote a healthier society. Enditem
