KABUL, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- The foundation stone for Afghanistan's first aluminum can manufacturing plant was laid on Thursday in western Herat province, underscoring the government's commitment to fostering private-sector growth and reducing reliance on imports in key consumer goods sectors.
The plant will be located in Herat's industrial parks, approximately 640 km from the capital Kabul. The project entails a substantial investment of 120 million U.S. dollars and will span a 16-acre site, according to a statement from the office of Afghanistan's deputy prime minister for economic affairs.
According to the statement, the new factory is expected to create direct employment for 1,700 Afghan citizens, boosting the local economy and advancing domestic manufacturing capabilities. Enditem
