BANGKOK -- Thailand's ruling Bhumjaithai Party announced late Wednesday its resolution to nominate two candidates for the premiership in the upcoming election, including party leader and Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow.

HONG KONG -- The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government on Wednesday expressed strong dissatisfaction with and opposition against the unfounded comments by some so-called human rights experts regarding the verdict of Jimmy Lai.

Certain so-called human rights experts have entirely no respect for the HKSAR court's independent judgment of the case, which had been made on the basis of facts and evidence. They also refused to acknowledge the evidence set out in the reasons for the verdict, or understand the court's considerations and reasons for the verdict, a spokesperson for the HKSAR government said in a statement. NEW DELHI -- At least nine people were killed and many others injured early Thursday when a private sleeper bus caught fire after being hit by a large truck in the southwestern Indian state of Karnataka, police said.

The accident took place at around 2 a.m. local time on the highway at Gorlathu village of Hiriyur area in Chitradurga district, about 203 km northwest of Bengaluru, the capital city of Karnataka. (India-Bus-Accident)

BANGKOK -- Thailand and Laos on Thursday jointly inaugurated the Fifth Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge, a major infrastructure milestone connecting the Thai northeastern province of Bueng Kan with Bolikhamxay province in Laos.
