ADEN -- Saudi warplanes on Friday carried out airstrikes on military sites affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Yemen's southeastern oil-rich province of Hadramout, a local security official told Xinhua.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that "several airstrikes targeted positions of the Elite Hadrami security units aligned with the STC."

DAMASCUS -- The death toll from an explosion that struck a mosque in the Wadi al-Dhahab neighborhood of the central Syrian city of Homs has risen to eight, Syria's health authorities said Friday, as authorities intensified investigations into what they described as a terrorist attack.

In a statement, the Syrian interior authorities said the blast targeted the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque during Friday prayers, noting that emergency and ambulance teams rushed to the scene immediately, evacuated the injured, and transferred them to public hospitals for treatment. DAMASCUS -- The Syrian army shot down hostile drones launched by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) toward military positions near the Tishreen Dam in eastern Aleppo on Friday, calling it a violation of the March 10 agreement between Damascus and the SDF, state media reported.

The drones were intercepted before reaching their targets, the state-run SANA news agency said. Separately, SDF forces targeted a checkpoint of Syria's Internal Security near al-Shihan roundabout in Aleppo, injuring one security personnel, the report added. (Syria-Clashes-Aleppo)

BEIRUT -- Israeli gunfire near United Nations peacekeeping patrols along the "Blue Line" border slightly injured one peacekeeper on Friday, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said.

In a statement, UNIFIL said heavy machine-gun fire from Israel Defense Forces (IDF) positions south of the demarcation line between Israel and Lebanon struck near a patrol inspecting a roadblock in the village of Bastarra.
