UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council on Monday adopted a resolution to renew the mandate of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) until Jan. 5, 2029.
CTED is a UN Secretariat body that assists the Security Council subsidiary agency of the Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC).
Resolution 2810, which was unanimously adopted by the 15-member Security Council, has decided that CTED will continue to operate as a special political mission under the policy guidance of the CTC for the new period.
The resolution underscored that neutral, expert assessment of the implementation of Security Council resolution 1373, which establishes the CTC, and resolution 1624, which calls on member states to criminalize the incitement to commit terrorist acts, and other relevant resolutions, is the core function of CTED.
CTED was established in March 2004. Its mandate was due to expire at the end of this year, and it was last renewed in December 2021. Enditem
